What is Argentium Silver?

Argentium Silver is a new silver alloy designed to combat common silver tarnish and oxidation. The composition of Argentium silver has two purities levels: .935 and .960. The remaining amounts are made with other alloys, such as germanium (a grayish-white metal). At Cremation Creations, we only choose the best for our customers and use .960 purity.

The key benefits of adding germanium to the casting process:

  • Brighter and whiter than platinum, white gold, palladium, or traditional Sterling.

  • Increased the durability of the material. Here at Cremation Creations, we work harden our items. This means they are more durable than standard castings. This also gives us an advantage over other makers. Standard Rockwell Hardness for Sterling Silver is 116- 130. The Standard hardness for Argentium silver is 136-148 on the same scale.

  • Tarnish Resistant.

  • Hypoallergenic - Due to higher silver content and germanium, Argentium silver is Hypoallergenic.

What is Sterling Silver?

Standard Sterling Silver comprises .925% pure silver and 7.5% other metals such as copper or tin. By having the copper cast with silver, it creates an environment where the air will oxidize your silver and create a black tarnish over time.
